Review: Silver’s Journey

Silver's Journey
Silver’s Journey by James Gardner

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A Fascinating Tale with Laugh-Out-Loud (Call Your Best Friend and Share Quotes) Humor!

Okay, to be fair, sharing humorous quotes is kind of my thing. I do it frequently. However, this is the first time I can recall feeling the need to share a funny quote from an Indie author. Hmmmm… Interesting.

Ladies and gentleman, we have a new Christian author on the block! His genre of choice? Teen Fiction/Fantasy. James Gardner creatively folds Christianity into a fantasy world in a way that will have teens and adults asking, “When does the next book come out?”

Many parents have expressed concern when entering a bookstore and seeing young adult books filled with vampires, werewolves, and teen hormones. For all you parents out there wanting your teens to read, but, at the same time, anxiously biting your fingernails. I hand you this book on a silver platter. I thought of you when I fell into the world of Aria!

Silver, our 16 year old young man who lands in Aria, is delightfully witty. His wit is pleasantly complimented by the characters native to Aria. Characters who have faith, bravery, resourcefulness, and wisdom. Wisdom that can apply to our daily lives.

Silver is a teenager and the book does have a smidge of teenage hormones. Honestly, only a smidge, and very well handled. It does leave the potential for more to develop in following books. However, if it does, I see it being handled tastefully.

Something I was left wanting when I finished the book was: More! I wanted to know more, I wanted to get deeper into the character’s heads. I wanted to see the creatures of Aria more vividly. Honestly, I would have been happy to read more about Silver’s life and school before he took the plunge into Aria. The stark contrast might have been fun to see.

Silver’s Journey was a great start for a new author and will be a wonderful addition to the teen section. I look forward to the next adventure and I do, I do, I do hope James Gardner lengthens it out a little bit.
